Mission Statement

As Lutheran Christians, we claim our whole Christian experience to be shaped by the Holy Bath, by the proclamation of the Word, and by the Holy Meal.

It is through the regular experience of these blessings that we become Christ, in our day, addressing both the pain and the hope of the world in which we live.

We know that we are totally dependent upon the Holy Spirit for us to be the Church.

We learn that we are freed by God by our faith in His sacrifice on the Cross for each of us.

We pray that our response to God's work in our lives preserves this Parish as a place where all people may feel peace and forgiveness, in safety.

Every activity of this Parish becomes the ministry of all the people working together to respond to God's love for us, as a welcoming community.

The Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd is a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. As a parish within this Church we are defined and empowered by God in Christ through Word and Sacrament. Claimed by Christ and reborn in a holy washing and fed by the Body and Blood of Christ, we become His body in the world.

We believe that we are called, gathered, enlightened, and sanctified and kept by the Holy Spirit of God, and that we are forgiven and reconciled to God and one another by grace through faith. We strive to live up to this calling by keeping our Parish a place of safety and reconciliation, a community of forgiven sinners. Because of God's first love, we resolve to conduct ourselves with honesty and integrity in our relationships.

We commit ourselves to a life of worship, service, fellowship, education and witness in this place, in the world, and to one another. To this end, we pledge our time, talent, and treasure, and welcome all people to share in our life together.
This mission statement was adopted by the congregation of Good Shepherd in 1998.
